2017 Palmaris Outer Coastal Plain Petit Verdot Reserve
A cellar selection to savor years down the road! Attractive aromas of grilled vanilla bean pods, pressed violet, dark chocolate coated peanuts and licorice. Lightly tannic with a complex, caramelized mushroom and leather finish.

The 4th generation Palmaris reserves are presented under the name Palmaris, meaning ‘prize-worthy’ in Latin. Palmaris is a name we reserve for wines of substantive character and distinction made only in superior vintages. 2017 was a fine growing season in the Outer Coastal Plain, characterized by rainfall and temperature conditions which allowed for maximum fruit maturity by late season.

The three grapes in the blend are 75% Petit Verdot (harvested at 22.2 brix, t/a 7.6 g/l as tartaric), 20% Cabernet Sauvignon (harvested at 21 brix, t/a 7.6 g/l as tartaric) and 5% Cabernet Franc (harvested at 19 brix, t/a 7.0 g/l as tartaric). The musts were fermented in contact with the skins for a period of 14 days and were vinified using Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast originally isolated from France's Languedoc terroir. They were made in separate lots between October 4th and October 14th, 2017, and subsequently transferred to a combination of French Nevers and American oak in January 2018. Malolactic fermentation was effectuated in oak where the wine evolved for 36 months until January 2021. The wines were blended and bottled in March 2021.

The Palmaris 2017 OCP Petit Verdot is a full-bodied red that needs aeration to develop its full flavor, so please decant prior to serving. We hope that you will enjoy this fine wine with a fine meal while in the company of good friends.

Suggested Pairings: Grilled Ribeye, Steak and Potatoes, Beef Stew

The grapes used in the production of this wine were 100% Pinot Noir estate grown at the winery's Flittertown Road Vineyard. The grapes were hand harvested at a point of maturity consistent with reserve quality. The grapes were crushed and fermented in contact with their skins for a period of 10 days with a yeast that promotes forward fresh fruit characteristics. A malo-lactic fermentation was simultaneously initiated. After the completion of fermentation, the wine was transferred to second year American and French oak for a period of one year.

2010 Palmaris Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

The 2010 Outer Coastal Plain growing season was perfect with a very long hot dry summer, excellent ripening and amazing resulting wine quality. We believe that this vintage is even better than the 2007 release which finished in a statistical dead heat with the 2004 Mouton Rothschild, Haut Brion and Montrose at the Judgment in Princeton. This may well be the vintage of the century! This Reserve release is composed of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. This is a stunner with balanced fruit, mid-mouth structure and lingering tannin. The wine was bottled on January 10, 2013. Production is limited.
